SBI Probationary Officer Recruitment 2026 Selection Process

The SBI Probationary Officer (PO) selection process is a rigorous three-phase recruitment consisting of a Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and a final phase featuring a Psychometric Test, Group Exercises, and an Interview.

Phase 1: Preliminary Examination (Screening)

The prelims are a qualifying online objective test used to shortlist candidates for the Mains. Scores from this phase are not counted toward the final merit list.

  • Duration: 1 Hour (Separate timing for each section)
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Sections:
    • English Language (30 Questions, 30 Marks)
    • Quantitative Aptitude (35 Questions, 35 Marks)
    • Reasoning Ability (35 Questions, 35 Marks)

Phase 2: Main Examination

Candidates who clear Phase 1 advance to the Mains, which consists of both objective and descriptive tests. Note: Marks secured in Phase 2 are crucial and carry heavy weight in the final selection.

  • Objective Test (3 Hours): 200 Marks
    • Reasoning & Computer Aptitude
    • Data Analysis & Interpretation
    • General/Economy/Banking Awareness
    • English Language
  • Descriptive Test (30 Minutes): 50 Marks
    • Evaluates English writing skills (Essay and Letter Writing) via computer typing.

Phase 3: Psychometric Test, Group Exercises, & Interview

Candidates who qualify the Main Examination are shortlisted for the final phase.

  • Psychometric Test: The bank conducts a psychometric test to evaluate the candidate's personality and behavioral traits. This is typically qualifying in nature.
  • Group Exercise (20 Marks) & Interview (30 Marks): Tests leadership abilities, communication, and overall suitability for the role.

Final Selection

The final merit list is prepared by normalizing the Mains Exam (Objective + Descriptive) scores and the Phase 3 (Group Exercise + Interview) scores. The ratio of Mains to Phase 3 is typically 75:25.
